How do I get to Rum?

The best way to get to Rum is from Mallaig Ferry Port. You can drive there and park up. Or get the train from Glasgow or Fort William, visit Scotrail to purchase tickets. Then catch the CalMac Ferry to Rum or an alternative during summer months is the Arisaig Ferry  (please note that during the Winter, Arisaig does not run and CalMac runs a reduced service)

Ferries run Monday, Wednesday. Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the summer timetable. PLEASE BE AWARE: The Calmac booking system online may not show up some of these ferries as there are a few teething problems so please do call 01687310240 and select option 2 to talk directly with the port.

Is the bunkhouse close to other amenities?

Yes, we are a ten minute stroll from the pier. The well stocked village shop & post office is a further ten minute walk. Please visit the shop website for the latest opening hours.

Are bedding & towels provided?

Yes, all bedding is provided. Limited towels are available to hire upon request but we encourage you to bring your own.

What facilities are available for camping & glamping guests?

Guests who are camping with us or staying in the glamping cabins have access to the separate shower & toilet block. The campsite has a communal shelter for socialising and stargazing. Unfortunately, access to the Bunkhouse is not included in campsite or cabin bookings.

Are there washing machine facilities for guests use?

Cars are not permitted on the island unless they are needed to carry out contracted work.

Does the Bunkhouse have a curfew?

No, the doors are open 24/7 but we ask you to respect other guests especially when using the communal spaces eg. no music after 11pm.

Do you allow for longer stays (i.e 1-2 months)?

Yes, everyone is more than welcome for longer stays, please get in touch if you are looking for an extended stay and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

Should I book in advance?

Booking in advance is highly recommended! We will always do our best to accommodate where possible but peak season does get very busy on Rum. Also, please ensure the Calmac ferry is booked prior to finalising accommodation.
